Companies That Care

NeigerDesign is a Founding Sponsor of the Center for Companies That Care (CTC). We knew from its inception in 2002, that we were 100% aligned with its vision: “By encouraging and assisting business to enable individuals and communities to thrive, we strengthen our communities and our society, resulting in a sustainable future for generations to come.”

We supported CTC’s inaugural efforts with a branding program that included brand identity, website, exhibit and collateral materials.

Carol Neiger personally continues to support Companies That Care as an advisory board member and a consultant on strategic branding and marketing initiatives, much of it on a pro bono basis.

In 2007, Center for Companies That Care launched Aim High, a ground-breaking student mentoring initiative for underserved Chicago public high schools to ensure that 100% of participating students will graduate from high school, enter college, and gain the skills needed to succeed in tomorrow’s workplace. In addition to designing the program brand identity, four members of the NeigerDesign team jumped at the chance to become a mentoring team for a student through the remainder of his high school career. We requested a student who was interested in art. That’s when we met Andrew. Despite the lack of art classes in his public school, he was a self-taught artist, constantly sketching and drawing on any paper, cardboard or whatever he could get his hands on.

For three years we coached and helped him through his required academics, encouraged his artistic expression and guided him through the daunting process of creating a student portfolio, narrowing college choices and submitting applications. Summer internships at NeigerDesign cemented the bonds of friendship that will last a lifetime.

Today Andrew is a Senior at Parsons The New School for Design in New York and looking forward to putting his talents and acquired knowledge and skills to work in the exciting world beyond the walls of academia.

Andrew graduated from Urban Prep High School and headed off to Parsons The New School in New York to begin his college career.

WTTW Channel 11, PBS featured Aim High on their news program Chicago Tonight and did a wonderful job of explaining how the program works and showing the benefits of becoming a mentor.

AIM High is a long-term, structured, more-than-mentoring program matching teams of local employees with urban, minority high school youth to ensure they graduate from a 4-year college prepared for tomorrow's workplace. Nelson Mandela said "education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world."

This was, and still is as we stay connected to Andrew, a great experience for the NeigerDesign team.
